| The
crimes committed by 16th Century Hungarian Countess Erszebet Bathory
were of such an unspeakable nature that today, nearly four centuries
later, it's hard to believe she ever existed at all.
Within the walls of Bathory's castles as many as 650 young women were savagely tortured and killed to satisfy the countess' misguided believe that drinking and bathing in blood would grant her eternal beauty and life. When she was at last arrested, Bathory's servant accomplices were executed and burned. Although Bathory's own royal life was spared, she was sentenced to spend the rest of her life walled within on e of her castle towers, where she allegedly died in 1614. To this day, Erszebet Bathory remains the most prolific female serial killer of all time and her story has become one of the cornerstones of modern vampire mythology. MORE: -- THE BLOOD COUNTESS |
